This is a very enjoyable tour taking in some of the most beautiful and Historic sites in Co.Meath. The tours are private tours guided by myself (Derek) which is the most enjoyable way to see some of the most historic sites in Ireland.
Full history will be given for each site visited. |

First Stop

Newgrange is one of the passage tombs of the Brú na Bóinne complex in County Meath, one of the most famous prehistoric sites in the world and the most famous of all Irish prehistoric sites. Newgrange was built in such a way that at dawn on the shortest day of the year, the winter solstice, a narrow beam of sunlight for a very short time illuminates the floor of the chamber at the end of the long passageway. |
Second Stop

Home to 15th century Slane Abbey. St. Patrick lit his Pascal Fire on the Hill of Slane, in direct opposition to the pagan beliefs of the High King.
Located just outside Slane off the N2

Kells or Ceanannas Mór, meaning Great Fort, a designated Irish Heritage Town, is one of the finest examples of a monastic settlement. Retracing the footsteps of the monks, one is drawn into a story of survival, of pluck and wit pitted against brawn and belligerence. Medieval monks were certainly pious, some reclusive, but most led colourful and imaginative lives. |
Fourth Stop

Loughcrew Cairns form the largest complex of Passage Graves in Ireland. The Cairns are megalithic structures containing symbolic engravings. Like other passage graves in Ireland, they have clear astrological alignments. There is evidence of many uses during the millennia, but it is generally agreed that they were originally built about 4000 bc as burial chambers. |
Final Stop

Trim Castle, the largest Anglo-Norman castle in Ireland, was constructed over a thirty year period by Hugh de Lacy and his son Walter. Hugh de Lacy was granted the Liberty of Meath by King Henry II in 1176 in an attempt to curb the expansionists policies of Richard de Clare, {Strongbow}. |

(b) Eight people collected by bus in Co. Meath -Total price €230.00
(c) Above tours collected in Dublin - Add €20.00 to above tours.
Entry fees are not included and currently are as follows:
Newgrange - €6.00 per person (€5 per OAP or Student)
Trim Castle - €4.00 per person (€3 per OAP or Student)
Others are free.
Lunch is not included, however we can stop for lunch if you wish.
